Pickleball Club at Penncrest High School schedules clinic for area youth
It seems almost overnight that the world suddenly became obsessed with a brand new sport. And those of all ages are getting in on the fun. Thankfully, if you’re new to the concept, area students are willing to teach a younger generation about the trendy hobby with a clinic on April 11.
Pickleball may have gotten its start in 1965, but in the past few years it has become all the rage. With a hard, plastic ball with less bounce than a tennis ball, players of typically two per side volley back and forth, much like ping-pong or tennis. However, the court size, rules, and regulations vary somewhat.
If you’re wondering what all the craze is about, students at Penncrest High School are offering a helping hand.
“We have awesome Penncrest Pickleball Club students who want to give back to the community,” said a post to Facebook, inviting the community to an upcoming clinic.
The post explained that the high schoolers aim to “help teach younger kids about the game of pickleball!” Cost is just $20 per person, and those ages 5 to 11 are encouraged to attend. The event is slated to include music, games, food, and raffles, in addition to educational lessons on the sport.
“Hop on over to our pickleball clinic,” said the club’s posters, noting that the clinic was “an opportunity for elementary students to learn the rules of the game and play against others their age.”
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Riddle Hospital’s NICU.
Sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and noon to 2 p.m. at the Penncrest High School’s tennis courts.
