Delco-set crime series ‘Task’ gets $50M state tax credit to film in Pa.
Crime-drama junkies, rejoice: The second season of “Task,” which stars Mark Ruffalo and is set in Delaware County, will film its second season in the area thanks in part to a multimillion-dollar tax credit from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
In late November — not long after HBO officially greenlit a second season of the gritty crime series — Pennsylvania Film Commissioner Gino Anthony Pesi announced that the Pennsylvania Film Office awarded “Task” $49.8 million through the Film Production Tax Credit Program.
Task is the second Delco-set series from creator, executive producer and writer Brad Ingelsby; the Berwyn native was also the creative force behind “Mare of Easttown” starring Kate Winslet.
According to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration, HBO has estimated that filming the second season of “Task” will inject $194.1 million into the economy in direct expenditures, creating and supporting more than 3,700 Pennsylvania jobs.
In the first season of Task, Ruffalo’s character leads an enforcement task force investigating a series of armed robberies at drug houses operated by a biker gang. While the plot of the second season is unclear, Ingelsby said in a September interview that he loves the idea of characters in the world of “Task” intersecting with those from “Mare of Easttown.”
