Delco health department holds exercise to prep for public health emergencies

In a public health emergency, every minute counts. That’s why local authorities recently convened in Middletown for a countywide exercise aimed at strengthening their ability to rapidly dispense life-saving medications.

The Delaware County Medical Countermeasures Point of Dispensing Exercise took place on March 24 at the Middletown Fire company station on Route 352. The Delaware County Department of Health and the Middletown Department of Public Safety teamed up to coordinate the exercise.

During the training, participating agencies worked through scenarios focused on optimizing traffic flow, communication, coordination and dispensing operations. The goal was to prepare for the rapid, large-scale distribution of vaccines or medication during public health emergencies such as pandemics or bioterrorism.

“We are proud to support this important mission and to collaborate with our county and regional partners in building a stronger, more resilient response system,” Middletown Township Fire Chief Bill Rigby said.
