Find your Zen at Middletown Township’s World Tai Chi Day event

If April is the month when you’re determined to improve your flexibility, focus and overall well-being, Middletown Township’s first celebration of World Tai Chi Day might be worth attending.
Established in 1999 and now celebrated in over 80 countries, World Tai Chi and Qigong Day promotes the theme “One World… One Breath” through free public demonstrations, workshops and group practice, according to the township.
Although Tai Chi and Qigong are similar, Qigong focuses on cultivating energy (Qi) through simple, repetitive movements, while Tai Chi involves longer, detailed sequences designed to enhance balance, strength and flexibility. Qigong tends to be more geared toward beginners.
To mark World Tai Chi and Qigong Day, Middletown Township is holding a free, family-friendly event aimed at introducing people of all ages to the two Chinese mind-body practices. “Attendees can expect a welcoming and engaging experience, whether they are brand new or experienced practitioners,” the township said. The event, slated for 10 a.m. on April 25, will be hosted by Sifu Tom Lugo of Integrated Kung Fu & Mixed Martial Arts Academy, in partnership with the township. It will take place at Roosevelt Community Center, 464 S. Old Middletown Rd, Media.
