Man leads Marple Township Police in chase, which included 125-mph speeds
The driver reportedly turned off his exterior lighting during the 3 a.m. chase.
A Philadelphia man that caused a middle-of-the-night police chase in December has had felony charges held over for court after Marple Township Police topped 125 mph while in pursuit.
Zavian Amir Hashim Khan, 25, of the 800 block of Bells Mill Road in Philadelphia, is facing a variety of charges after the Marple Township Police observed him driving a 2017 maroon Ford Mustang GT around 3:29 a.m. on Dec. 18, 2025, while out on patrol in the vicinity of West Chester Pike and Veteran’s Boulevard. According to an affidavit of probable cause, police said Khan’s vehicle displayed Pennsylvania tags which were suspended in the system. The tags also reportedly belonged to a 1998 Ford Mustang, police said.

Marple police turned on emergency lights and sirens in order to initiate a traffic stop, but police said the Mustang then slowed but “rapidly accelerating away” for police. Police said they continued to pursue the Mustang, westbound on West Chester Pike. Khan then made an illegal U-turn at the Glen Gary Road intersection, police said.
When turning, police said they observed the vehicle had tinted windows, which prevented a view to the interior. The vehicle then entered Interstate 476 North and began improperly passing multiple vehicles without signal. Police said in the affidavit that Khan continued to drive at a high rate of speed, well over 125 mph in a 55-mph zone. Though also traveling at 125 mph, police said Khan continued to gain distance, traveling faster.
Police said they suspended the dangerous pursuit around 3:34 a.m., near Mile Marker 11, as Khan turned off all exterior lights while continuing at a high rate of speed near other motorists.
In January, police utilized a search warrant to check the AT&T cellular data of Khan’s phone, which showed he was in the area at the pursuit’s start at West Chester and Veteran’s Boulevard and also in the area of Mile Marker 11 at the pursuit’s end.
Felony charges including fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, along with related traffic summary offenses, were waived for court at a March 5, 2026 during an arraignment. The courts set a $5,000 unsecured bail. Khan is due in court on April 29, at 8 a.m., for a formal arraignment before Magisterial District Judge David H. Lang.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
