Human remains discovered by hikers in Ridley Creek State Park, according to authorities

Authorities are investigating after hikers discovered what were later confirmed to be human remains in Ridley Creek State Park on Friday afternoon.

According to a report, the Upper Providence Township Police Department was dispatched around 12:30 p.m. on March 6 to the area of 71 Chapel Hill Road after two hikers called 911 to report finding what they believed to be human remains.

Police responded to the scene and requested assistance from the Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office. Officials recovered the remains and confirmed they were human.

Because the discovery occurred within the state park, troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police Troop K station in Media also responded and are assisting in the investigation.

Authorities said the incident remains an active investigation by Upper Providence Township police and state police. Additional details, including the identity of the individual and the circumstances surrounding the discovery, have not yet been released.
