PSP uncover 40 pounds of marijuana during Delco traffic stop

A traffic stop last week in Delaware County led to state troopers discovering a large amount of marijuana and cash in a person’s vehicle — thanks in part to the sharp nose of a police dog.

Around 11:20 p.m. on Feb. 26, state troopers pulled over a car on a section of 1-95 that runs through Ridley Township after observing “multiple traffic offenses,” according to Pennsylvania State Police. After noting several indicators of criminal activity, troopers asked the driver to search the vehicle, but the driver declined.

The troopers then requested K-9 assistance, and a dog named Ivan sniffed out narcotics in the vehicle. Police detained the driver and obtained a search warrant to seize the vehicle, and after towing the car to PSP Media headquarters, they obtained another warrant to search the vehicle.

During that search, police discovered approximately 40 pounds of marijuana concealed in boxes and buckets as well as about $6,000. Subsequently, the driver of the car was arrested and charged with felony possession with intent to deliver narcotics and other related misdemeanor criminal and summary traffic charges.
