Rose Tree Elementary’s third grade visits staff, officers at Upper Providence Township Police Department

Perhaps the police men and women of tomorrow were among those visiting that day. Maybe they are simply children that will now know a friendly face during a difficult time in their community. Or, by chance, some may at least look at police work a bit differently than they had previously.

There are any number of possible benefits from a Rose Tree Elementary School field trip last week, far beyond the educational lessons each child experienced in the process. On Wednesday, Nov. 19, the third grade classes from RTE traveled outside of the classroom and into the police department visiting the Upper Providence Township Police officers. The department shared the experiences with photos on the team’s Facebook page.

During the special visit, the third graders were able to take tours of the Highway Department, Administrative Department, and Police Station. The walking tour included educational stops at the department’s offices and work stations, and even included full displays of the police equipment and vehicles.

Chief of Police David Montella, Sgt. Lawrence Baker, Officer Christopher Eller-Naegele, and Officer Karallus Dietrich helped the special visitors by answering questions from the third graders.

“Thank you RTE third graders for bringing us warmth and sunshine on this cold and rainy day,” said the department’s social media post. Despite cold, grey weather, the entire department was able to enjoy smiling faces and inquisitive children thanks to the visit.
