Ben Davis’ son Tague is off to a scalding-hot start to his collegiate career
If you listened to any Phillies Spring Training broadcasts last weekend, Tom McCarthy mentioned how Tague Davis — son of Phillies color commentator Ben Davis — was having an incredible start to his collegiate career. McCarthy wasn’t exaggerating.
Across his first 40 at-bats for the Louisville Cardinals, Tague is hitting .425 with six home runs and 19 RBIs:

One of those six home runs was a walk-off blast to the deepest part of the park on Feb. 28:

Tague has many similarities to his dad. Both Tague and Ben went to Malvern Prep. Tague is 6-foot-4 as a college freshman, the same height his dad was listed at during his playing career. If you look at Tague, he looks very much like Ben:

However, Tague is already 225 pounds, as opposed to the 195 pounds Ben played at during his career. And while Ben was a catcher, Tague is primarily a first baseman who has also mixed in a little work on the mound for the Cardinals so far this season.
Ben was the No. 2 overall pick in the 1995 MLB Draft out of high school, so he was a heck of a prospect himself. It doesn’t look like the apple fell far from the tree, though. Given how Tague is performing as a freshman for Louisville, it stands to reason we could be talking about him as a top draft pick in the coming years.
