New Eagles Twitter Account: Here’s Why You Already Follow It

The Philadelphia Eagles launched a new twitter account named “Eagles History,” under the handle @eagleshistory_, on October 29. It seems like it could be fun.

Are you interested in following it?

Well guess what, bitch. It’s not up to you!!!

Eagles History already has 321,900+ followers. Almost none of those followers signed up over the last two days. As of this writing, the account shows only about a dozen tweets.

This has prompted some confusion:

Internet sleuths have come to the conclusion–not yet confirmed by On Pattison–that the Eagles either bought or commandeered the account of longtime Eagles in-house writer Dave Spadaro.

A link on the Eagles’ website intended to take readers to Spadaro’s twitter now returns the following:

The guess here is that the internet sleuths are correct, and that the Eagles took over and re-branded the writer’s massive account. Twitter allows one-time changes to a twitter handle (from @EaglesInsider to @eagleshistory_, for example).

The new account has a pricey gold badge that large verified organizations often buy, as well as a secondary badge indicating that Eagles History is, in fact, officially associated with the Philadelphia Eagles:

Why did the Eagles do this?

Does it violate twitter’s terms of service related to buying/selling/transferring accounts?

Did nobody tell them how bad that underscore at the end of the handle looks?

Is Dave Spadaro ok?

Is he locked in Jeff Lurie’s basement?

On Pattison is on the hunt for answers. Capital ‘J’ Journalism, baby. Stay tuned.
