Fortunately for the Phillies, it sounds like Suárez will be fine.
“Good,” Rob Thomson said postgame when asked how Suárez was doing. “106 [mph], left thigh, inner thigh. It was a little scary at the time, the way he just kind of hunched over. I thought, ‘Oh, it got his hand or something.’ As Ranger said, it got all muscle.”
Suárez spent much of his postgame media session smiling, including when asked about the joke he told Thomson.
“Yeah, all muscle,” Suárez said in English.

Even prior to the injury, it wasn’t a particularly sharp final start of the regular season for Suárez, who seems likely to be the No. 2 starter in the postseason for the Phillies. Over 4 1/3 innings pitched, Suárez allowed nine hits and three earned runs, two of which came via solo shots by Byron Buxton and James Outman.
Suárez finished the regular season of his contract year with a 3.20 ERA across a career-high 157 1/3 innings pitched. Before he tests free agency, Suárez will have a chance to add onto his postseason legacy, which already includes him recording the NL pennant-clinching out as a reliever in 2022. Suárez has a 1.43 career postseason ERA over 37 2/3 frames.
The second-longest tenured Phillie was asked following his outing whether he’s thought about the fact that this could be his final stretch in red pinstripes.
“No, not really,” Suárez said through interpreter Diego D’Aniello. “I just try to enjoy the present and enjoy day-by-day what I have with this team. We’ll see what happens after the season is over.”
