Report: Eagles still in on Mekhi Becton despite Kenyon Green trade

Before joining the 2024 Eagles on a one-year deal, Mekhi Becton was a disappointing Jets offensive lineman selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Birds o-line coach Jeff Stoutland, the best in the business, is widely credited with turning Becton’s career around.

Before joining the 2025 Eagles via Tuesday’s C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade, Kenyon Green was a disappointing Texans offensive lineman selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Many observers initially believed that Green would be Stoutland’s new reclamation project, and that the team would part ways with the new and improved (and now pricier) Becton.

But NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the CJGJ/Green trade “does not mean the Eagles are out on Becton.”

Like Becton, Green surely has some unlocked talent. Players don’t get drafted in the first round by accident.

But Eagles fans would certainly rest easier if the Green project plays out behind-the-scenes while Becton returns with the club.

Most Eagles with expiring contracts have already moved on to new teams, so perhaps Becton and the Eagles are working something out. The former Jet is still just 25 years old. Green is 23.
