Newtown Volunteer Fire Co. seeks volunteer firefighters, drivers, event helpers

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a firefighter, the Newtown Volunteer Fire Company wants to talk to you.

The fire company is seeking volunteers to fill a variety of roles in two major categories, including — but not limited to — interior and exterior firefighting. Volunteers are also needed to serve as drivers/apparatus operators, and there are opportunities for junior firefighters to serve. Training for all firefighting and emergency response roles will be provided, so no experience is necessary.

In addition, the fire company is seeking volunteers to help with dinners, raffles and events. Tasks may include helping with setup, cooking and cleanup, posting on social media and doing promotions, and filing other behind-the-scenes support roles.

Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to stop by the station at 36 Wood St. in Tremont after 6 p.m. on Fridays to meet the crew and learn how they can get involved. The more social media-savvy potential volunteers can also message the Newtown Volunteer Fire Company on Facebook to learn more.
