Seeking fun on a day off from school? Try Media Theatre’s ‘Play in a Day’

While Feb. 16 is a federal holiday, and both Marple-Newtown and Rose Tree Media school districts are off, not all parents get to be home. Many area employers don’t provide the day as a paid holiday, leaving many to wonder what to do for childcare. Thankfully, The Media Theatre has a solution: Play in a Day.

On Monday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the theater company will host “Play in a Day” for those ages 7 to 14. The day will consist of three unique age groups (first and second grades, third and fourth grades, and fifth through eighth grades) uniting to create a fun single-day production.

According to a social media post by The Media Theatre, the January event for PIAD sold out.

“Take advantage of a day off from school to create a Play in a day,” said the post, which also explained the three unique age groups, a new feature for this go-around.

Registration is required and can be completed online. The theater’s website said that those participating will have a very unique experience.

“Starting with an original concept, the group of campers, under the direction of teaching artists, will create a truly original play that will culminate in a performance-ready show,” said the site. “Students will be divided by age. Each Play in a Day is as unique as the participants.”

While there is no live showing of the created play, those participating will get to keep a filming of the production to last a lifetime.

“The performance will be filmed and sent to parents,” explained the site. “Your students will hone their imagination and collaboration skills to create a remarkable performance.”

Students will need to bring a packed lunch for the day’s camp. The cost for the day’s events is $150 per child. For registration, visit https://www.mediatheatre.org/camp. For any questions regarding the PIAD camps, email [email protected]
