Penncrest High School to hold prom wear fashion show on March 22

Many high school students look forward to their senior prom. It’s one of the major events in the senior year and something people tend to remember for the rest of their lives.

It’s a time to dress up, have fun, and be almost grown up.

But hold onto your wallet.

An average parent of a daughter spends $1,000 to $1,200 on a prom dress and accoutrements, according to Nathan Custom Tailors.

What are the latest fashion trends for prom wear?  If you want to find out, come to the Penncrest High School on March 22 to see a fashion show.

The Penncrest High School fashion show benefits the “A.M. Prom,” a post prom party at the high school.

“Tickets are available! Come support our Penncrest seniors,” said parent Lauren Gavin-Driscoll. “There are about 60 students (in the show) who are seniors. And middle school students (future Lions) are involved, also.”

Both boys and girls take part. There are two acts. The students will model prom attire, prom clothes, and accessories. The second act is the model’s choice, she said.  The fashion show also includes a silent auction.

“The A.M. Prom is an annual event that keeps kids safe by keeping them at the school post prom.

“A.M. Prom is held immediately after the prom, until about 4 a.m.,” said Gavin-Driscoll. “It is a way to keep the students safe and entertained. We plan and raise money all year, to transform the whole school. Each year a different theme is picked. There is music, games, prizes etc.”

The A.M. Prom theme this year is a secret so the kids will be surprised, she said.

Tickets for the fashion show event are $5 for students, $15 for adults in advance and $20 at the door. The show, in the Pencrest High School auditorium, begins at 2 p.m. And doors open at 1 p.m.

The school, part of the Rose Tree Media School District, is located at 134 Barren Road in Media.
