Man sideswipes another driver, exceeds 100 mph eluding PSP in Marple Township

A Chicago man allegedly speeding on area roadways attempted to elude State Police and now faces felony charges as a result.
According to police, Carlos Alfredo Perez, 23, of the 5100 block of Hermitage Avenue in Chicago, was traveling on Interstate 476 South around 9:36 p.m. on April 3, 2026, when stationary Pennsylvania State Police utilizing a Genesis radar unit clocked his speed at 95 mph in a 55 mph zone in Marple Township. The PSP Trooper said he initiated a traffic stop north of Exit 9, following the darkly colored Dodge Charger, but Perez failed to yield and continued south.
Police said that, while traveling directly behind the Charger, Perez continued at high speeds, exceeding 100 mph, overtaking traffic on both shoulders, as well as “weaving in and out of traffic.” According to an affidavit of probable cause, the PSP said Perez “sideswiped a motorist who was traveling in the left lane.”
Troopers said, despite striking the other vehicle, Perez did not stop and instead exited at Exit 5, failing to stop to exchange information with the other driver. Police said that, as they too exited the Interstate, they witnessed the Dodge Charger facing oncoming traffic. Perez was ordered out of his vehicle and was placed under arrest, according to police.
Perez faces one felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, along with misdemeanor counts of an accident involving a damaged attended vehicle and recklessly endangering another person, along with related summary offenses, including reckless driving, careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes, following too closely, turning without signal, and exceeding 55 mph by more than 40 mph.
Perez was held in county jail unable to pay 10% of a $50,000 monetary bail. He was arraigned on April 4 at 11:15 a.m. He later posted bail on April 6 with a $5,000 private surety cash payment. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 8 at 9 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Andrew Goldberg.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
